Server & Application health

Server monitoring is the foundation of the Comprehensive Magento Monitoring Service (CMMS). Your hosting company is responsible for the health and availability of the server itself, but you are responsible for the applications running on that server. It’s up to you to manage critical issues such as site speed, extension compatibility, and malware. Are you ready?

CMMS is designed to give you complete visibility across both server and application resources. Stay on top of slowdowns and outages with root cause analysis capabilities, workload monitoring, and guidance for improving overall application performance.

Application Health & Security

Fraud, hackers, and malware target online platforms as well as third party extensions. The first step in the CMMS site security protocol is prevention. Scheduled scans identify known vulnerabilities so they can be addressed proactively, which is essential for reducing your exposure.

The second step in the protocol is notification and mitigation. We use Sansec’s eComscan, an eCommerce fraud detection tool, which quickly scans files, databases, and third party components to identify malware, vulnerabilities, and unauthorized accounts. This system often identifies new attack vectors weeks before they are widely known. Real-time alerts can be sent to your team so you can implement a rapid response, protecting your customers and your business.

Automated Functional Testing

The CMMS site performance monitor includes a sophisticated automated functional testing program that reviews critical aspects of your site to ensure expected functionality. User login, site search, and checkout process are just a few examples of functions that can regularly be verified for success.

With this approach, you can identify and address usability issues before they impact your customers. This element of our Comprehensive Magento Monitoring Service can improve customer experience and increase sales by reducing barriers to conversion.

A Recent History of Malware

  • November 2015 – Cyber criminals manipulated more than 3000 online stores to continuously collect customer credit card numbers. As far back as May 2015, the malware was embedded in the header or footer of every page of each store’s site.
  • December 2016 – Visbot malware was found harvesting customer data and skimming credit card info on more than 6500 online stores. This malware is particularly hard to detect, as it resides in code running on the server.
  • April 2017 – In a particularly brazen scheme, hackers sent fraudulent Magento patch emails to Magento site owners (fake patches were SUPEE-1798 and 9789). The patch download contained malware and once installed, harvested payment data and passwords.
  • August 2018 – Credit card skimmers were planted on more than 7000 eCommerce sites since March 2018. Most of the malware went undetected for many months before being identified and addressed.
  • April 2019 – eCommerce sites are not the only targets. More than 50 payment gateways around the world were impacted by a polymorphic skimmer. Gateways in the US who fell victim to this malware included Stripe, Braintree, and Authorize.net.
  • September 2020 – Hackers took advantage of the fact that Magento 1 was end-of-life in June 2020 by injecting malicious code dubbed “CardBleed” into Magento stores. The malware intercepted payment information to be sold later on the dark web.
